One of the great things about Parksville is that it has a small-town vibe but with everything you need. The quiet lifestyle and short commutes are ideal aspects for many people. Yet, those that prefer additional shopping options and things to do can visit Nanaimo, which is only minutes away.
Parksville is a seaside town, which means many homes are either on the waterfront or have views of the ocean. Real estate options are plentiful, especially with recent developments expanding along the shoreline. Single-family homes, townhouses, and condos are distributed fairly equally. Newer condominiums have popped up closer to the beach, while older single-family homes can be found more often a few blocks from the beach. There is plenty of property for sale in Parksville, from waterfront condos to acreages on the outskirts of town.

Outdoor recreation is a major reason why people enjoy living in Parksville. Vancouver Island contains some of the best hiking spots in all of British Columbia, and Parksville is no exception. Along with hiking, residents and visitors alike enjoy mountain biking, canoeing, windsurfing, fishing, swimming, and golf. Tee off at either Morningstar Golf Course or Brigadoon Golf Course for a relaxing morning or afternoon activity. Many professional and national golfing events have been held at these locations, demonstrating just how exceptional these golf courses really are.
Local businesses have made their mark in the Parksville region. Visit the Goats On The Roof in Coombs, relax at the Grotto Spa at the Tigh Na Mara, or walk the boardwalk and take in the ocean air. Check out a locally owned and operated restaurant filled with fresh, local ingredients and a friendly buzz of conversation. Treasure hunt for that one-of-a-kind find at the local thrift stores or used bookstores. Parksville is a small town but it still has plenty to offer.
The sandy beaches are one of many reasons people live in Parksville. The most well-known ones are Parksville Beach and Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park. Both are excellent choices for different reasons. Due to their location and geography, both beaches offer surprisingly warm waters for swimming.
Parksville Beach is the easier of the two to find. It is a stone’s throw away from downtown Parksville. The Parksville Community Park sits along the shoreline and is the place to be for children and families. This massive park contains a boardwalk, picnic areas, volleyball courts, outdoor gym, and a huge playground. There’s also a spray park! Kids love the variety of structures to play on, as well as the wide open spaces to run around. Once a year, the Parksville Beach Festival (aka “Beachfest”) takes place adjacent to the playground for the annual sand sculpting competition. Skilled artists compete for the best sand sculpture and the results are astonishing. Despite its small size, the community is a strong component of Parksville. Events like these demonstrate why so many people are drawn to relocating to Parksville.
Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park contains another fantastic beach paired with a large campground. Day visitors walk through a shaded, lightly forested area before reaching the sandy beach. The shaded areas contain several picnic tables, making it a great place to stop for lunch. The campground contains 174 vehicle-accessible sites and 25 walk-in sites, making it quite large. Comfortable amenities such as hot showers and an outdoor theatre make this campground a popular choice.
